DPF Cleaning

Our DPF cleaning service all begins with diagnostics to work out how badly blocked your DPF is and how it got that way. Then we do an industry leading two stage liquid chemical clean. Forced directly into the DPF and penetrating all the filter chambers, removing soot, oil and carbon build-up. A regeneration is done to dry the DPF out, then the DPF is reset in the Engine Management System so it thinks it has a new DPF. Schedule a visit from us to your home or workplace; we offer a flexible service at a competitive price.

Our DPF Cleaning Service

Our DPF cleaning service targets removing the most common cause of DPF problems – oil, carbon and soot build up. It involves full diagnostics, both electronic and with pressure gauges, to determine if the DPF actually needs a clean and if so why it has got to that stage. Normally underlying faults are to blame for this situation. If we find it does need a clean and there if no fault on the vehicle stopping us we will connect to the DPF and inject our two stage liquid chemical DPF cleaner into it. After leaving it to soak a while, we will then flush it out. After the clean the DPF readings in the Engine Management System are reset and a DPF regeneration done to complete the cleaning process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Read All FAQs
  • What is a DPF?

A DPF is a Diesel Particulate Filter. It is in the exhaust system to trap soot particles. Catalytic Convertors reduce harmful gases, as does Ad-Blue.

  • How do DPF's work?

Very simply, they are a honeycombe filter that traps soot and ash. The Engine Management system monitors the DPF performance, and when it thinks the DPF is getting quite full it will initiate a self clean, Regeneration.

Quite a number of criteria need to be met in order for this to take place including vehicle speed, engine speed, engine temperature, exhaust temperature, the amount of diesel in the fuel tank, no major error codes present etc. If these are not met and a Regeneration cannot be successfully completed the DPF keeps getting more full. At a certain point it is deemed unsafe for a regeneration to be done, so at that point you need us to do a DPF Clean.

  • Why do DPFs block?

Normally this happens if there is a fault like a faulty temperature or pressure sensor or a split pipe, It can also happen due to a faulty EGR valve, or be the result of lots of short trips and not being driven hard enough when out on longer journeys to give itself the chance to perform a regeneration. Normally soot build up is the problem, which our DPF Clean will deal with. On higher mileage vehicles sometimes ash build up is the problem.

Not many companies can offer a solution for this but we can. It does involve removing the DPF unlike the soot clean though.

  • When should a DPF be cleaned?

The DPF will need cleaning if the contents have got too high for the vehicle to safely clean itself. When the vehicle goes past the point it feels it is safe to do a regeneration, it will then most likely put up a warning light on the dashboard, or even put the vehicle into a reduced power (limp) mode.

  • How do you clean the DPF?

We connect directly to the DPF, usually through a pressure sensor pipe. We use compressed air to force a liquid cleaning chemical into all of the honeycombe chambers within the DPF. We then leave it to soak in for a while beforeflushing it out with a flush fluid again using compressed air. We then perform a regeneration to complete the process.

  • Can a DPF always be cleaned?

No not always. We run electronic and manual tests to work out if the DPF can be cleaned, or if indeed it needs a clean. Sometimes faulty sensors or blocked sensor pipes cause the engine management system to think the DPF needs a clean when it doesn't. Also in rare situations, the honeycombe filter within the DPF can collapse and in that situation the DPF needs to be replaced.

  • Is DPF cleaning legal?

Yes it is. Unlike the removal of the DPF or modifying it's internals to enable exhaust gases to flow out of a blocked DPF. In May 2018 the MOT changed and any non standard DPF setups are more easily detected. Vehicles will be impounded and owners fined £1000 on top of the cost of buying and installing a new DPF and having the Engine Management Software updated.

  • How do I know I can trust you?

We use industry leading equipment that has been tested for efficiency and safety for your engine and us the operators. We have been trained, are insured and are experienced working on all makes of cars and light commercials.
