Car Remapping

All modern cars come with electronic systems (ECU) that control the engine’s performance. These systems, when fine-tuned, can make the engine perform even better, giving you quicker acceleration, more torque (less gear changes) and better fuel efficiency. At Remap & Revive, we have a team that specialises in remapping engines for all types of vehicle, whether it’s a car, van, motorhome, a truck or even a boat, agricultural machine, motorbike or buggy.

Whether you need improved throttle response, better fuel efficiency or want the engine to have more power, we carry out ECU adjustments to deliver exactly what you need. We have the latest advanced equipment – all genuine and licenced, for remapping engine ECUs.

Benefits of Remapping Your Engine:

  • Increased torque / pulling power
  • Better throttle response
  • Cleaner emissions
  • Smoother drive
  • Improved fuel efficiency
  • Fuel injection adjustment
  • Better acceleration

Engine Carbon Cleaning

Remapping your engine combined with having it Carbon Cleaned can do wonders for your vehicle’s all-round performance. Removing carbon deposits is recommended after the vehicle has driven as little as 20,000 miles. This keeps key components like fuel injectors, turbos, EGR valves, CAT's and DPF's cleaner and working efficiently meaning no drop in performance or fuel economy, and no expensive bills for parts to be replaced that really only needed cleaning.

Diesel car owners often report up to 8 MPG better economy after a carbon clean and we have seen as high as 24 BHP gains on petrol engines (Audi RS4 4.2 V8) when rolling road (dyno) tested before and after a clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is car remapping?

Remapping uses the software on your ECU (Electronic Control Unit) as a base, and we make changes to that software and write the new files back on over the top of the originals. We always keep a copy of your original software in case it needs to be loaded back onto your vehicle in the future.

  • Is car remapping the same as chip tuning?

No, chip tuning is the term used for the tuning of early fuel injected and turbo charged cars, typically from the mid-eighties to late nineties. The micro-chip holds the program for the fuel injection and turbo on has to be removed and replaced with a microchip with a different program on.

  • Can you remap any car?

Most likely the answer is yes, most cars built after the year 2000 are able to be remapped. If you give us your registration number we can look up the details of your vehicle and then check on our systems. We will also be able to tell you the gains and prices too.

  • Do I need to tell my insurance company?

Legally yes you do, modifying a vehicle without telling your insurance company will invalidate your cover. Meaning they will not pay out in the event of an accident and then prosecution by the Police for not being insured. This is down to your conscience though, as we do not inform any motor industry or insurance body we have remapped your vehicle.

  • Is a remap better than a tuning box?

A remap uses your original software, we make a copy of it and modify it, then load the modified files over the top of the originals. We keep a copy of both lots and can reload either at any time in the future if required. A tuning box at best alters the voltages from the sensors to the ECU, fooling the ECU into raising fuel flow/pressure and turbo boost. At worst, they do nothing at all. Also as there are extra wires and connectors, there are more potential points of failure.

  • Will a remap affect my warranty?

This is always a tricky question to answer. If the claim is on a non-engine part, then there is no reason why there should be an issue. If the claim is with an engine part, then it is down to the dealer/manufacturer to prove the remap caused the failure. I personally have had 3 different makes of brand new vehicles remapped including 2 work vehicles and have warranty work carried out on all without any objection from the dealers. Understandably some customers prefer to wait until the warranty period has ended before remapping, but we have plenty of clients who have had us remap new vehicles including a 3 day old Jeep, a 3 day 184 mile old Ford Transit Custom, a 2 day old FIAT Ducato based motorhome and a 4 month old BMW X6M.

  • Will a remap damage my engine?

No, ours will not. We take care to make it smooth and progressive so as not to overload or stress any engine or transmission components. A poorly written remap possibly will damage it due to over fuelling and a power delivery that feels like it’s on a switch, it's either all on or all off. We also consider the specifications that the manufacturer has built it to take and keep well within those limits unless you want a 'Race' map in which case we ask you sign a disclaimer and we will extract the maximum power but keeping the delivery as smooth and flexible as we can.

All we recommend is that you look after the engine as you should if it was standard - Warm it up before revving it hard, cool it down afterwards before switching off and service it using recommended quality parts and scheduling.

  • Will a remap damage my clutch?

No, our remaps are built to deliver smooth and progressive power, and within the design limits of the components. But, as all clutches are service items and have a finite life, clutch slip may occur on a clutch that is nearing the end of its natural life. To date, we have had this happen on 3 vehicles in over 7 years of remapping.
